Graduate program (Master degree)for International Business (English)

1. Training goals
     This major is aimed to cultivate the candidates with contemporary advanced international business theories and practice. Cross-cultural competence and ability to handle business affairs in the multinational companies are highly valued.
     The graduates of this major are required to grasp a second foreign language and master the skills of the computer. Besides, the graduates are required to employ skillfully the quantitative methodology related with the international business.

2. Study Direction
      International Business English

3. Study period
     Flexible schooling system and credit system are used in the period of schooling: The period of schooling is generally about two and a half years, no more than 4 years, which include 2 years for courses and 1 year for dissertation writing (data collection involved).

4. Teaching methods
      Various ways of teaching methods are involved, such as lectures, fieldwork, and internship.

5. Curriculum and Credit Allocation
     The credit system is employed in the course of the graduate students for a Master's degree, which falls into the compulsory course and selective course. The graduates can get their master degree under the condition that their total credit can not be less than the stipulated credits in that major and they pass the oral defense of their dissertation. The dissertation can only be written after obtaining permission and in accordance with the format and requirement of academic paper within the given time.

6. Teaching and research practice
     The internship period is supposed not to be less than 3-month period. The internship includes teaching activities and participation in the survey and research of certain subjects under the guidance of the supervisor. Graduates shall join social practice ( in companies ) in compliance with the rules and regulations of the school.

7. Dissertation
     Dissertation writing is to examine graduates’ professional knowledge, research ability and comprehensive capability. Dissertations should be accomplished by graduates independently under the guidance of mentors.

Master for International Business (English) Course Description

     Based on a perspective of multi-discipline and the international business research achievements, graduates majoring in International Business (English) are required to exploring international business theories, principles and methodology, and are expected to master systematic theory of international business, and be familiar with the latest research situation and trends. Graduates should be capable of using various kinds of quantitative and qualitative research methods, conducting scientific research independently with a prudent attitude, and competent in dealing with foreign business affairs.

I.Learning Goals:
1、 Personal and Professional Development: The formulation of an individualized career plan and the development of the personal leadership characteristics and professional skills required to realize that plan.

2、 Expertise in a business discipline: An in-depth understanding of a business discipline including technical knowledge, the ability to apply that knowledge, and skill in evaluation of business strategy within that discipline.

3、 Business Integration: An understanding of the interdependence of the various functional areas of business.

4、 Diversity and Globalization: An awareness and appreciation of diversity in the workplace and of issue surrounding the globalization of both domestic and international business activities as well as the ability to develop strategies to address those issue.

II.Professional Main Programs:
I.Compulsory Courses:
1. International Business
      International business is the passport to the global marketplace, and Tianjin Foreign Studies University’s program prepares students to complete in the international arena. Students learn international economics, finance, and management, as well as develop an appreciation for different cultures and business practices. 2. Western Economics

3. International Economics
      In the next decade, transnational economies will be even more closely interdependent. 4. Multinational Corporation Management

Ⅲ.Selective Courses:
1. Cross-cultural Biz-communication
      Cross-cultural business communication is designed to help you investigate and understand the challenges of communicating, with a special emphasis on communicative construction of otherness. This course will provide theoretical, methodological and ethnographic tools to understand the tenets and implications of cross-cultural business communication.

2. Market survey
     Market survey allows the students to experience the marketing survey process as both a project oriented as well as continual basis. Students will develop and master a variety of collection instruments. The course introduces measurement and research techniques employed in marketing, and places emphasis on design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of both qualitative and quantitative research. Students learn to initiate and execute a meaningful research study.

3. Business Literature Reading
     As some scholars debate the origins and boundaries of the research in their fields through the publicized literatures, business literature is the body of major articles and books that have had formative influence on modern business theory and practice. The business literature reading course provides wide-ranging coverage of business literatures, including book reviews by well-known business writers, professors, and executives, aiming to cultivate the skills of writing high-quality dissertations and keep up with the pace of the latest research in a certain field.

Ⅳ. Practice Course:
